A friend asked me what I was up to the other day. My response: “I think I might do some editing on my online meditation course.”
It seemed like a productive use of my time. I felt like I had good intentions, at least until she pointed out that I always use the words, “I think I might…” whenever I talk about my plans.
I have to admit, goal setting has never been a strong suit of mine. It’s always felt like something that constricts my freedom rather than supports it, as if being intentional and committed to where I’m going would somehow disrupt my ability to go with the flow.
But when we don’t know where we’re going, we’ll never get there.
And there’s a huge difference between hoping that, somehow, things will naturally unfold according to our desires versus actually making them happen.
It all comes down to one thing: choice.
The language we use determines the outcomes we create. When we’re iffy about what we want, the universe responds in kind.
Knowing what we want is a pre-requisite to getting it. And being able to articulate it clearly – without diluting it with qualifiers like “I think / I might / maybe I’ll…” – is the first step to bringing it into being.
So the choice boils down to this: Leave your dreams to chance, or make the decision to go after them. Declare your desires, schedule time to work on your goals, show up, take action, commit to the end result.
Without a doubt, you’ll be on your way to making your fantasies a reality. And the universe will respond in kind.
